FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does general liability insurance cover?

General liability covers claims that your business caused bodily injury or property damage to someone else, injuries from products you sold or work you completed, and certain advertising injuries such as libel. It also pays legal defense costs for covered claims. It does not cover your own property, your employees’ injuries, vehicles, or professional mistakes; those need other policies.

Is general liability insurance required in Texas?

Texas does not require most businesses to carry general liability by law. In practice it is often required by commercial leases, client and general contractor agreements, and some licenses and permits, and one lawsuit can cost far more than the policy.

How much does general liability insurance cost?

Price depends on your type of work, revenue or payroll, location, claims history, and the limits you choose. A consultant may pay much less than a contractor doing physical work. Request a quote and we will compare carriers for your trade.

What is the difference between general liability and professional liability?

General liability covers physical harm: injuries and property damage. Professional liability, also called errors and omissions (E&O), covers financial losses a client claims were caused by your advice, services, or mistakes. Consultants, designers, and other professionals often need both.

What limits do most contracts require?

Many contracts and leases ask for $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate. Some also require additional insured status, a waiver of subrogation, or an umbrella policy. Send us the contract and we will confirm the policy matches it.
